Raspberries are always delicious, but there’s no better raspberry than one you’ve grown yourself. You might be surprised at how simple they are to grow. Raspberry plants grow really well in pots and should provide plenty of juicy berries from summer through to autumn. This raspberry bush is a promise to your future self. It’s unlikely to bear fruit in the first year, but take care of it and you’ll be rewarded from next year on!
The ideal conditions for raspberries are bright and moist, so put yours in a spot that gets lots of sun and keep it well watered. You should see small white flowers appearing in April, which are then replaced with fruit right through to autumn. The berries are ready to pick when they’re soft and deep yellow in colour.
When your plant has finished fruiting for the year, cut any stems (also known as canes) that bore fruit right back to the ground. They’ll be replaced with new ones, and new fruit, in spring.
