A rare and exotic beauty, ‘White Princess’ contrasts white and green variegated leaves with a pink tint as new growth emerges. Grown for its colourful foliage and bred to grow slowly and remain compact, this coveted philodendron is perfect for adding a pop of colour to smaller spaces. Not only is it an aesthetic feast for the eyes but its air purifying qualities make it good for your health too.
Like all philodendrons, see Tanya, Leo, Penelope, ‘White Princess’ will thrive in conditions that closely mimic its native habitat: the warm and humid tropical rainforests of South America. This isn’t actually that hard to do in a home environment. By placing your plant in a room with a consistently warm temperature and bright, filtered light you’re pretty much set. Give yours a mist every few days (always fun to give yourself a spritz during summer too). As for watering, don’t be fooled into thinking that because it originates in a rainforest your philodendron likes lots of water. Moist air, yes, but not wet feet. Keep the soil lightly moist and only water well when the top two inches of soil feel dry. Feed it once a month to encourage strong healthy growth.
Did you know?
The name philodendron derives from the Greek words philo 'love, affection' and dendron 'tree' so can be translated as loving trees. This tells us a lot about the habit of these plants, which climb up trees to reach the light.
